Baxter has been through a lot. Born in April 2016, he lost his beloved owner and was taken in by a kind woman who, unfortunately, wasn’t able to give him the care he needed. Her son made the responsible decision to surrender him to us—and we’re so grateful he did.
When Baxter arrived, he was in rough shape—severely matted, no veterinary care, and suffering from dental disease and cherry eye. Thanks to your generous support, we were able to shave him down, get him fully vaccinated, confirm he’s heartworm negative, and fundraise for the surgeries he desperately needed. Now, Baxter is finally ready for his forever home.
Baxter is a special soul. He doesn’t like being forced or rushed—especially when scared or overwhelmed—and may growl or even nip in those moments. For that reason, he needs a calm, adult-only home with someone who understands that trust takes time. Once he feels safe, Baxter is incredibly affectionate and loyal. He loves cuddling on the sofa, being petted, and simply being close to his person. His foster mom absolutely adores him and believes he’ll make a wonderful companion for the right person.
He would do best with a retired or stay-at-home owner who is patient and experienced with dogs. Baxter is okay with cats, but he does not get along with other dogs, so he must be the only dog in the home.
